About
Sandur Kushala Kala Kendra (“SKKK”) was registered as a Society in the year 1988 to revive the
traditional crafts of the area and improve the quality of life of craftspeople by encouraging and
developing their skills and marketing the products thus ensuring regular income to its artisans.
It is the craftsperson, rather than the craft, that is the focal point of the Kendra.
It believes that the
renaissance of Arts and Crafts can be brought about by encouraging, training, and compensating the
craftspeople fairly.
Today about 600 artisans work with SKKK.
The activities of SKKK includes a Khadi unit registered with KVIC, a Cane & Bamboo unit, natural
dyeing unit, stone carving unit and a tailoring unit and a largely spread-out embroidery unit.
SKKK
produces a range of over 350 unique craft products/ product categories.
Namely table runners, wall
hangings, cushion covers, kurtas, handbags, accessories, stoles, sarees to name a few
In the year 2008 , GI Tag No.
134 ‘Sandur Lambani Embroidery’ was awarded to SKKK.
SKKK’s artisans have been conferred with National excellence awards from Government of India,
UNESCO seal of excellence Award.
SKKK created the art installations as a part of the Third G20
culture working group meeting in Hampi on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India in
July 2023and created a Guinness World Record for the ‘largest display of Lambani items ‘.
