About
Auromira exports is the only artisans group in Pondicherry, South India, dedicated to promoting a craft that takes
us back to a simple and natural way of living.
Since the beginning of Auromira Export in 2004, the blend of traditional Indian weaving techniques and the Western influence
of the German Bauhaus movement, inspired us to create a new sustainable approach to the whole issue of ecology in the textile field,
touching three main areas:
· ecological production: the entire process of extraction and production of fibers, the use of natural dyes and fabrics, furnishings
· and fashions in environmentally sound conditions.
· human ecology: the effects of textiles on the body as the nearest environment.
· disposal ecology: recycling of textiles and wastes and the responsible use of natural and energy resources such as water waste.
Our Mission.
The principle goal of Auromira Exports is to improving the lives of the less
privileged rural youth of the surrounding Villages of Pondicherry by helping
them to create beautiful, simple and useful handicrafts in order to become
self reliant artisans fully integrated in their communities.
Our Aims.
To promote handweaving, readymade garments, and the related crafts ( hand-dyeing, hand embellishment of textiles, needle work etc.
) to create simple
and beautiful textiles of a high quality as a sustainable approach to generate self-employment in our rural villages.
To train unskilled youth belonging to the most backward, rural communities and establish them as independent producers in any of the weaving related areas,
supporting them through our project with marketing and design input.
To promote Fair Trade in India we stand for the fair price to the artisans, no child labor
or women exploitation, individual development and community improvement schemes, environmentally friendly production methods and respect for the local
culture and traditions of the artisans.
Product Line
BEDSPREADS: standard sizes of 140x250cms,170x250, 230x250cms, 230x280cms in more than 75 different designs and weaves. Matching cushion covers of 40x40cms , 50x50cms ,60x60 cms,90x90cms and bolsters of different sizes are optional.
TABLE CLOTHS: table cloths in all standard sizes: 90x90cms, 130x180cms, 130x220cms; placemats:33x48cms; tablerunners: 34x90cms and napkins:40x40cms. Options include round or oval shape, with or without fringes. Kitchen sets of aprons, oven gloves and potholders are also available.
TOWELS: Kitchen and Bathroom towels hand finished with crocheted cotton borders. Honeycomb cotton towels in various sizes and colors. Tea towels and dish-cloths also available in assorted designs.
BAGS: coordinated sets of luggage and travel-bags, wallets, toilette
bags, rucksacks and casual bags, belt pouches, spectacles cases, pencil cases, document holders etc. Most items can be made to specifications. All use hand- woven fabric and aluminum, brass or nickel fittings.
FABRICS: for furnishing and curtains. Plain and Jacquard or Dobby designs are available in a width of 140cms upto 250 cms width. Design commissions are welcome. Screens, blinds, cushions and seating fabrics, special weaves for drapes and unique wall hangings are also available.
MEDITATION CUSHIONS: our round shaped cushions are essential to sitting properly during meditation, reading or listening relaxing music . They are handcrafted from high quality ,100 % cotton canvas, soft and pleasant to the touch. We stuff them fully to provide excellent support with kapok or a local organic millet hull named : varagu, an all natural material that is pliable. All depends in your choice.
YOGA MATS: our portable yoga mats, handmade with a 100% cotton honeycomb fabric in one side and a resistant cotton canvas on the other, are padded with a single ply or double ply natural cotton batting. They come with a matching cotton bag for carrying it easily to the gym.
HAMMOCKS: We introduced the hand-woven garden hammock into the Indian market. Our traditional sleeping model in striped or plain designs with macrame fringes; 130x340 cms still is our best seller. A children’s hammock and a hammock chair are also available. Each is individually packed in a matching shoulder bag.
GARMENTS: Garments and made-ups come in a range of traditional and contemporary styles. Design commissions welcomed. Hand embroidery and glass/wooden bead embellishment can be incorporated into garments and accessories. Unless specified by a client, fabrics used are hand-woven from 100% cotton or silk and colored using certified Eco-friendly dyes. Some fabrics are hand-block printed in the traditional Indian technique using new and old designs made on hand-carved wooden blocks with vegetable dyes.
ACCESSORIES: cotton scarves, wraps and shawls (dupattas) and pareos. Hand finished with block prints, embroidery, shibori or batik , hand painting, clay, wood and glass beads. Cotton and silk jacquard scarves, ties, cummerbunds and handkerchiefs.
