About
Blue pottery is one of India’s most famous traditional craft of Jaipur which is popular across the world.
The name ‘blue pottery’ comes from the eye-catching blue dye used to colour the pottery.
This has been practiced since 1900, which is a unique and labour-intensive craft art.
This art uses traditional methods for the production of pottery, painting, and glazing.
RN Blue Art Potteries was started by Ramnarayan Prajapat in 1980.
It is an organization works in production and marketing floor of “Gramin Blue Art Pottery Samiti” a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) at Kotjewar chaired by Ramnarayan Prajapat.
It has provided employment opportunities to the rural population.
Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) families are doing great work in this field at Kotjewar.
They are officially designated groups of historically disadvantaged people in India.
But blue
pottery provides empowerment especially for the backward castes and housewives.
By employing unskilled artisans and training them to make blue pottery articles this art is kept alive and is thriving.
RN Blue Art Potteries has dedicated itself to keep traditional techniques alive by using the
same techniques.
For the past 4-5 years the slow growth in the manufacturing and sale is
observed due to the lack of marketing, limited financial support and dedicated exhibition
platforms, causing the artisans to abandon this art.
Hence, to keep this art alive, it needs
maximum support from national, international, government, and NGOs.
It needs a strong platform for marketing worldwide with grants made readily available.
There are approximately 250 male and female artisans who are producing these works of
art at their own homes with the help of the organization.
Jaipur blue pottery is not an
industrial production.
It is completely eco-friendly and enhances your standard of living with
its beauty and uniqueness.
Creativity rests in the imagination of the artisan where nature is
expressed in these potteries.
They are not mere decorations but also serve as utility
products.
