Cottage Industries was started in 1949 to provide the Ashram with incense sticks and mats, the surplus being distributed amongst devotees. In time, a great demand for incense arose from devotees abroad and our first export was made in 1973.
Cottage Industries started a retail outlet in 1993. Our air-conditioned showroom at Rangapillai Street is in the commercial heart of Pondicherry. Unlike many others in this business, Cottage relies on a personal distribution channel which includes as much a word-of-mouth approach to selling products as it does more direct ways of approaching wholesellers.
The products are a result of a careful selection of natural ingredients and eco-friendly methods of manufacturing. They promote rural employment. This makes their products pure and at the same time economical.
