The principle goal of Auromira Exports is to improve the lives of the less privileged rural youth of surrounding villages of Pondicherry. This is done by helping them to create beautiful, simple and useful handicrafts in order to make them self reliant artisans fully integrated in their communities.
The organisation promotes hand-weaving, but also works with readymade garments. Training in terms of hand-dyeing, hand embellishment of textiles, needle work etc. is provided to create simple and beautiful textiles of high quality. Unskilled youth is trained in order to get economicly stable. The youth belongs to the most backward, rural communities. Next to establishing them as independent producers in any of the weaving related areas, Auromira Exports supports them with marketing and design inputs.
To promote Fair Trade in India the Organisation stands for the fair price to the artisans, no child labor or women exploitation, individual development and community improvement schemes, environmentally friendly production methods and respect for the local culture and traditions of the artisans.
